The Strats collection is composed of furnitures made out of recycled plastic with a new 3D printing technology
Strat Collection
The "Strat" collection is made out of local recycled plastic that is 3D printed into furniture. The whole collection includes stools, lounge chairs, tables, lamps and other customizable pieces of furniture on request. Designing together with the 3D printed technology could compete with current industrial processes offering a potential new form of industrialization. The adaptable custom made products offer a new way to create sustainable objects.
Strat Collection - 3D printed furniture out of recycled plastic
Create new sustainable furniture with local plastic waste is possible by using 3D printing machines and designing in accordance with the technology. "Strat" is a collection of furniture by Joachim Froment using plastic waste from Belgium in order to produce and sell locally.
"Strat" is part of a whole collection of furniture products made out of local recycled plastic. Including stools, lounge chairs, tables, etc. The particularity of this project is that the 3D printing machine developed by "Colosus" are integrated in containers and can easily be transported in order to be placed in strategic areas and use local plastic waste. The objects have been designed adequately to the 3D printing tool and therefor can be printed in less than 2 hours (scale 1:1) in Belgium reusing directly plastic granule from recycled areas in Belgium. The aim of this project is to create products made of local recycled materials destined to be sold on a local market and offering a service to recycle the products in order to close the loop and participate entirely to a circular economic system. This way of design together with the technology could compete with current industrial processes offering a potential new form of industrialization with adaptable custom made products and offering a potential new way to create sustainable objects at an affordable price. The chair and the other products of the collection has been designed to be 3D printed fast and efficiently with a minimum of material. The closed loop shape of this chair is adding mechanical strength to the structure but it follows also a "vase-mode" process in order to print continuously without interruption thereby saving time and energy. Since forms are part of an expressive language, it is important to consider each curves and surfaces, therefor the organic and soft curves of the chair evoke lightness in order to manifest the importance attached to its materials. The curved splines also improve the mechanical properties and are essential to reinforce the structure of the product. The products are available from November on the Benelux market and will extend its production in Europe in the next coming months by exporting the production.
